It's a four door Bronco! aka the C350 from Centurion. It's basically an F350 four door Bronco...with a 460 V8, and 4 wheel drive! Badass. Definitely a major change from the slammed Miata I was driving previously...
If you don't know anything about them, these crazy conversions were made by a company called Centurion. It has an F350 frame and running gear, with an F350 crew cab welded to the back half of a Bronco sitting on top. Yes, the roof still comes off! I haven't taken it off yet, and I really want to put a soft top on it eventually.
It's in great shape. Odometer says about 83k miles, and while it could have turned over, I don't think it has. It's been in southern California it's whole life, and the interior has held up remarkably well. Seats 8! It purrs like a kitten too...need to get some glasspacks on it to fix that.
So what say you Oppo? Cool or not cool?

Yeah, I really don't even like the term. Just made for a good headline!
I bought this truck to drive a few miles around town, and to be able to tow a car trailer, so for me it's highly functional. Plus, now I get the added benefit of having a cool truck to take to Pismo Beach instead of just some utilitarian pickup.

I really want a occasional towing vehicle as well, sad thing is all the 90's OBS stuff here in Michigan is so damn rusty. I need a Cali truck too, haha. That Centurion has got to be one of the awesomest SUV's ever.
Guy at my work is swapping a 460 into his Bronco right now, did all kinds of upgrades to it, can't wait to see his completed project.

This one may eventually make it back to the East Coast...I might try to pay for the gas to drive it across the country with the premium I could get for a rust free truck back east.
Well it does have a little rust...on the roof. The joint where it's welded together flexed and cracked the paint off over the years, so it's cali, sun-baked, surface rust...

You bought a centurion!???!?!?!? I don't care what anyone here says, those are AWESOME! If anyone here gives you shit, crush their miatas with your mighty C350. It looks really clean, what kind of shape is it in?
I would love to own a 96 C350 7.3 PSD as a tow beast one day, but I doubt I'll ever own a Centurion. I have two friends who own them, although one sold his. One was a 88 I think C250 in all white, the other is a 96 C250 with a SAS and 37's. It also is a 460 but its a MAF truck. He has a brand new 460 and a vortech sitting in his basement waiting to go in one day. The truck needs a resto bad, he's been using it for a plow truck for years and its taking its toll.
Here is the 96, you can see my 96 eddie bauer next to it which is a 4" lift and 35's for size reference.

A friend of mine wanted a short wheelbase truck with four doors a while back. I said to go Centurion. Pursuant to that, I CL'ed them a bit. The 350 4wd ones are among the harder ones to find - at least in 7.3 diesel form, there are some 460s. Lots of F-150 2wd ones out there, seemed like.

I love the Eddie Bauer Broncos...
Mine is in really good shape for the age. It has 83k miles, I believe they're original judging by the condition. Runs awesome. Sit's at idle and you can barely feel or hear it running (glasspacks should solve that problem). Interior is in really good shape except the seat bottoms are shredded.
Only rust is on the roof at the joint. Still very repairable since it's been in southern california it's whole life. The chassis is nice and clean. The diesels were special order right?
offroadkarter
> Bird
03/31/2014 at 16:26 | 1 |
I have no idea if the diesel were special order or not, I mean probably. These trucks were so customizable when you ordered them.
The roof rust is such a common issue on those, aside from that it looks great.
Also this is only my opinion but I think most exhaust setups sound like redneck garbage on these trucks. I am going to do a magnaflow setup on mine because it sounds pretty smooth and not like a 350SBC with a muffler delete. I'd look somewhere into that route to.

What really amazes me is how clean it looks underneath: usually the underside of a mid 80s Ford is rustville, population you. Not so with this truck. You said it has a little rust on top, but still not bad at all.
Bird
> thisisamazonman
03/31/2014 at 17:35 | 0 |
Yeah the underside is clean. Thank god for southern california!
I'm originally from the midwest, so I know what even 5 years does to the underside of a car out there...Here in LA, you can still take the bolts off of suspension parts that are 20 years old, and not need to use a blowtorch...
Jerbun
> Bird
03/31/2014 at 17:52 | 0 |
Not a bro truck. Proper tire to rim ratio, tire to wheel well ratio, and wheel gap size. This is a beautiful machine. Also, based off of the picture below, that looks like a proper suspension lift, rather than being put on blocks.
On another note, I have never before realized how far back from the front of the door those mirrors are mounted. How does that work with positioning them?
Bird
> Jerbun
03/31/2014 at 17:57 | 0 |
I'm not sure about the lift actually. I don't know enough about them. I think it may just be extended shackles. It's not actually lifted that much though. The F350's ride really high stock, and then with the bigger tires it makes it that much higher.
As far as the mirrors, they're in a great place visibility wise...but I never really noticed how far back they were either.

As mentioned by others, it is not a Bro truck or a Brodozer because: Looks like it is close to a stock F350 ride height. No "fear this" stickers. No over fueled diesel rolling coal. No poaching lights. No guns racked on display.
In short- it is a solid piece of good equipment that has not been molested by some overcompensating Bro.

EPIC!!!! Those are wicked.
Get used to single digit fuel milage. I had a 1991 Bronco that gave me (seriously) between 1.5 and 2 MPG. Had I done some repairs and new tires I probably could have gotten it up to 5 mpg city. I only had it a few months before the repair bills skyrocketed and I gave it to my parents to trade in, but damn those were great months. I had the 351 Windsor. So much torque, I can't imagine what the 460 must be like.
There was a company that made slantback-soft tops for them. If it has lasted longer I would have gotten one. They snap on and look awesome. Might be something to look into if you want a soft top.
Overall, nice truck. Hope you have fun with it.

I actually like the look just how it is now. I think F350's look a little goofy...too high and not enough tire. Besides that, these tires are dirt cheap. US surplus Hummer tires...$125 a pop for basically new tires. So I need to be able to clear a 37" tire if I want to keep using these.
The plan is to fix it up a little. I want to get the seats recovered in the same material. The front seat bottoms are shredded and the foam is bad in all of them. Then start doing spot repairs to the problem areas on the body. No real rust except the roof, but it has some things that could use attention. It could stand to be painted, but I like the originality so I want to keep from doing that as long as possible.
